(please discourage phone calls during your weekend - it may disrupt your ability to concentrate on each other and thereby gain the best from it.)

Marshall Meadows is the most northerly hotel in England lying close to the coast of Northumberland less than half a mile from the border with Scotland.

It was built in the 1780s and retains many of the original Georgian features set in 15 acres of gardens and pastures provide the perfect setting for your Encounter weekend, though you are unlikely to have much time to explore all the venue has to offer.

The accommodation is of a high standard in all en-suite rooms, but all the rooms are on the first floor and a staircase has to be climbed to reach them. The proprietors will make every endeavour to help guests with mobility issues, but there are no lifts.

Getting There

Public Transport

The nearest railway station is in Berwick upon Tweed, a little over two and half miles south of the hotel. It is served by the East Coast mainline between Edinburgh and London Kings Cross.  There are good connections from all over the UK via Edinburgh and York with many direct trains. There are plenty of taxis available at the station.

There is a bus stop on the A1 at the entrance to the access road.  It is served by a number of bus services including the 253 from Edinburgh to Berwick. More information can be found at the Traveline Journey Planner website.

Car

The hotel has direct access off the A1 dual carriageway trunk road about half a mile south of the border between Scotland and England and just over 2.5 miles north of the centre of Berwick upon Tweed.

From the north it is the first junction after the layby that marks the border. Turn left into the access road and then keep right to reach the hotel entrance.

From the south take the A1 bypassing Berwick, cross the River Tweed (single carriageway bridge). In just over 2 miles there is a roudabout, which is the northern access to Berwick and various services (there is big McDonalds sign on the right before the roundabout).  Take the first exit heading north towards Edinburgh.  After a mile and a quarter, take the right turn of the dual carriageway into the Marshall Meadows access road and keep right to reach the hotel entrance.
